Florence was born in 1894 in Everton.1  Florence's father was Frederick Arthur Rider and her mother was Leah Lawrence.  Her maternal grandparents were Philip Hughes Lawrence and Mary Bennett. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Frederick, George, Robert, Phillip, Lilian and Dorothy.  She was the second oldest of the seven children.
