Eric's father was Arthur Reade and his mother was Mary Thomasson. His maternal grandparents were Paul Thomasson and Elizabeth Alice Thornley. He had three brothers named Thomas, Robert and Arthur. He was the youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 81 in June 2002 in Bolton.²
