John's father was Joseph Ramsden and his mother was Martha Haslam.  His maternal grandparents were William Haslam and Ann Roscoe. He had six brothers and a sister, named John, James, Thomas, William, Joseph, Samuel and Priscilla.  He was the youngest of the eight known children.  He died at the age of 4 in September 1855.  He was buried on September 6th, 1855 in Bolton.¹
