Maria was born in 1890 in Bolton.1   Maria's father was James Pendlebury and her mother was Margaret Ann Dennis.  Her paternal grandparents were James Pendlebury and Hannah Yates. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Harry, James, William, Hannah, Florence, Ethel, Margaret and Lena.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 1 in September 1891 in Bolton.2
