John Mather Orrell was an illegitimate child, the son of Martha Orrell of Great Bolton, and the father assumed to be a Mather, possibly John Mather of Barlow Street, Little Bolton.
Born Halliwell, John's marriage witness, was from Blackburn Street, Little Bolton, son of Thomas Halliwell, a spade labourer.
John must have died in 1843, as Martha was a widow in 1851 and this is the only young adult death (and had middle initial M). Therefore the later children with Martha in 1851 must be illegitimate.
