Nancy's father was John Mather and her mother was Jane Welsby.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Alice Entwistle. She had five brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, Robert, Daniel, Henry, Mary, Sarah and Esther. She had three adopted brothers and an adopted sister, named John, William, James and Jane. She had a half-brother named John.
