Miles was born on September 8th, 1793 in Horwich and his christening took place on October 3rd, 1793 in Horton.1  Miles' father was Miles Nightingale and his mother was Hannah Smith.  His paternal grandparents were Humphrey Nightingale and Alice Nightingale. He had two brothers and a sister, named James, Daniel and Hannah.  He was the second oldest of the four children. He had a half-brother named Peter.  He died at the age of 77 in June 1871 in Bolton.2
