Daniel's father was Miles Nightingale and his mother was Hannah Smith.  His paternal grandparents were Humphrey Nightingale and Alice Nightingale. He had two brothers and a sister, named James, Miles and Hannah.  He was the youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother named Peter.
