William was born in 1759 in Shakerley and his baptism took place on August 12th, 1759 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).1  William's father was Ralph Mather and his mother was Anna Garnet.  His maternal grandparents were Isaac Garnet and Mrs Isaac Garnet. He had a brother and six sisters, named John, Alice, Martha, Mary, Elizabeth, Hannah and Dinah.  He was the youngest of the eight children.  He died in October 1759 in Shakerley.  He was buried on October 23rd, 1759 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Leigh).2
