Thomas was born in September 1855 in Atherton.1  Thomas' father was John Mather and his mother was Ellen Mort.  His paternal grandparents were <unknown> and Jane Mather; his maternal grandparents were John Mort and Ann Mort. He had two brothers and a sister, named James, John and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the four children. He had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Edward, James, Mary and Eliza.  He died at the age of 57 in March 1913 in Leigh.2 



Thomas' family with Hannah Halliday

‌Thomas and Hannah were married in a civil ceremony in September 1877 in Leigh.3  They had three sons and three daughters, named Jim, John, Fred, Ellen, Mary and Elizabeth.  There are no more children.
