Thomas was born in 1745 in Little Hulton and his baptism took place on December 25th, 1745 at St. Mary (Deane).1  Thomas' father was John Mather and his mother was <unknown>. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Peter, Thomas, Samuel, John, Harry, Noah, Catherine, Ann and Betty.  He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.
