Catherine was born in 1737 in Little Hulton and her baptism took place on June 21st, 1737 at St. Mary (Deane).1  Catherine's father was John Mather and her mother was <unknown>. She had eight brothers and two sisters, named Richard, Peter, Thomas, Samuel, Thomas, John, Harry, Noah, Ann and Betty.  She was the third oldest of the eleven children.
