Susannah was born on December 11th, 1827 in Edgworth and her baptism took place on January 20th, 1828 at Edgworth Independent.1 2  Susannah's father was Edward Mather and her mother was Ann Brambley.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Alice Entwistle. She had three brothers and three sisters, named James, George, Charles, Alice, Susannah and Nancy. She had an adopted sister named Mally.  She died as an infant in 1827 in Edgworth.
