Nancy was born in 1832 in Edgworth and her baptism took place on February 13th, 1832 at Edgworth Independent.1 2  Nancy's father was Edward Mather and her mother was Ann Brambley.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Mather and Alice Entwistle. She had three brothers and three sisters, named James, George, Charles, Alice, Susannah and Susannah. She had an adopted sister named Mally.
