Sarah was born in 1872 in Radcliffe.1  Sarah's father was James Mather and her mother was Mary Hellwood.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Davenport and Mary Ann Mather. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, James, Mary, Martha and Mary.  She was the second oldest of the six children.

‌Sarah and Philip were married in a religious ceremony on July 15th, 1893 at St. Mary (Radcliffe).2   The family line is yet to be completed.
