Martha was born on March 26th, 1877 in Radcliffe and her baptism took place on April 9th, 1877 at St. Mary (Radcliffe).1 2  Martha's father was James Mather and her mother was Mary Hellwood.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Davenport and Mary Ann Mather. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, James, Sarah, Mary and Mary.  She was the third youngest of the six children.
