Mary was born on October 28th, 1875 in WestLeigh and her baptism took place on December 6th, 1875 at St. Thomas (Radcliffe).1 2  Mary's father was James Mather and her mother was Mary Hellwood.  Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Davenport and Mary Ann Mather. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, James, Sarah, Martha and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the six children.  She died at 5 months old in March 1876 in Leigh.3
