Sarah was born in 1798 in Warrington and her baptism took place on January 28th, 1798 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1  Sarah's father was William Mather and her mother was Sarah Kilshaw. She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Henry, Thomas, William, John, Mary and Ann.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children. She had two half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Peter, Peter, Mary and Eliza.
