Robert's father was John Frederick Mather and his mother was Ann Bennett.  His paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Sarah. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Frederick, Charles, Matilda, Ann and Isabella.  He was the second oldest of the six children. He had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Robert, John, Henry, Sarah and Alice.  He died before 1837.
