Ann was born in 1827 in Manchester and her baptism took place there on December 30th, 1827.1  Ann's father was John Frederick Mather and her mother was Ann Bennett.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Mather and Sarah. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Robert, Frederick, Charles, Matilda and Isabella.  She was the fourth oldest of the six children. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Robert, John, Henry, Sarah and Alice.
