Richard was born in 1864 in Quarlton.1  Richard's father was <unknown> and her mother was Martha Mather.  Her maternal grandparents were Richard Mather and Mary Rostron. She had a brother and two sisters, named George, Sarah and Elizabeth.  She was the oldest of the four children.
