Rachel was born in August 1861 in Turton and her baptism took place on September 22nd, 1861 at St. Anne (Turton).1 2  Rachel's father was Charles Mather and her mother was Betty Crompton.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Mather and Ann Brambley. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Henry, John, Joseph, Charles, Mary and Hannah.  She was the oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 2 in August 1863 in Turton.  Her burial was on August 12th, 1863 at St. Anne (Turton).3
