Mary was born in April 1868 in Bradshaw and her baptism took place on April 26th, 1868 in Turton.1 2  Mary's father was Charles Mather and her mother was Betty Crompton.  Her paternal grandparents were Edward Mather and Ann Brambley. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Henry, John, Joseph, Charles, Rachel and Hannah.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 34 in December 1902 in Bolton.3 



Mary's family with Robert Turtington

‌Mary and Robert were married in a civil ceremony in 1893 in Bolton.4  They had five biological daughters named Elizabeth, Ada, Annie, Matilda and Ethel.  They also had an adopted son named Norman.
