Peter was born on May 12th, 1852 in Lowton and his baptism took place on May 16th, 1852.1 2  Peter's father was James Mather and his mother was Martha Swift. He had four brothers and six sisters, named William, Thomas, James, Joseph, Mary, Ellen, Alice, Elizabeth, Alice and Margaret.  Peter and Elizabeth were twins.  He died at 4 months old in September 1852 in Leigh.1
