Elizabeth was born on May 12th, 1852 in Lowton and her baptism took place on May 16th, 1852.1 2  Elizabeth's father was James Mather and her mother was Martha Swift. She had five brothers and five sisters, named William, Thomas, James, Joseph, Peter, Mary, Ellen, Alice, Alice and Margaret.  Peter and Elizabeth were twins.
