Peter was born in September 1857 in Little Bolton and his baptism took place on March 14th, 1858 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Peter's father was Thomas Mather and his mother was Mary Ramsden.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Brabin. He had two brothers and a sister, named William, John and Sarah.  He was the youngest of the four children. He had a half-brother and three half-sisters, named John, Fanny, Mary and Harriet.  He died at the age of 29 in December 1886 in Halliwell.  He was buried on December 14th, 1886 in Bolton.3

‌Peter and Elizabeth were married in a religious ceremony on December 8th, 1884 at All Saints, Little Bolton.6  They had a daughter named Mary.  There are no more children.
