Mary's father was William Mather and her mother was Margaret Doud. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Thomas, Thomas, Edward, William, Sarah, Elizabeth, Margaret and Sophia.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 1 in 1861 in Bolton.¹
