Mary was born in June 1782 in Bolton and her baptism took place on June 30th, 1782 at Bradshaw Chapel.1  Mary's father was John Mather and her mother was Jane (Jennet) Partington.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Mary Meadowcroft. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Isaac, Isaac, Lettice, Catherine and Lettice.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
