Jane was born in 1817 in Warrington and her baptism took place on June 8th, 1817 at St. Peter (Liverpool).1  Jane's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Hannah Penketh. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Henry, John, Ann, Hannah, Esther and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the seven known children.
