Jane was born in 1817 in Warrington and her baptism took place on June 8th, 1817 at St. Peter (Liverpool).1  Jane's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Hannah Penketh. She had a brother and three sisters, named John, Hannah, Esther and Elizabeth.  She was the fourth oldest of the five known children.
