Esther was born in 1815 in Warrington and her baptism took place on May 27th, 1816 at St. Peter (Liverpool).1  Esther's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Hannah Penketh. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Henry, John, Ann, Hannah, Jane and Elizabeth.  She was the third youngest of the seven known children.
