Elizabeth was born in 1820 in Warrington and her baptism took place on October 8th, 1820 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1  Elizabeth's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Hannah Penketh. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Henry, John, Ann, Hannah, Esther and Jane.  She was the youngest of the seven known children.
