Elizabeth was born in 1820 in Warrington and her baptism took place on October 8th, 1820 at St. Elphin (Warrington).1  Elizabeth's father was Thomas Mather and her mother was Hannah Penketh. She had a brother and three sisters, named John, Hannah, Esther and Jane.  She was the youngest of the five known children.
