Harriet's father was James Mather and her mother was Mary Lambie. Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Mary Ann Wilson. She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, David, James, William, Alexander, Elizabeth and Marion. She died in June 1882 in Salford.²
