Hannah was born in 1828 in Birtle and her baptism took place on March 16th, 1828 in Tottington.1 2  Hannah's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Mary Bridge.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Judith (Judy) Chadwick. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Christopher, Mary, Susey and Betty.  She was the oldest of the six children.
