Betty was born in 1833 in Birtle and her baptism took place on August 18th, 1833 in Rochdale.1 2  Betty's father was Richard Mather and her mother was Mary Bridge.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Madther and Judith (Judy) Chadwick. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Richard, Christopher, Hannah, Mary and Susey.  She was the third youngest of the six children.

‌Betty and Henry were married in a religious ceremony on August 20th, 1855 at St. Mary-the-Virgin (Bury) witnessed by George Simpson & Ra. Crompton.3  The family line is yet to be completed.
