Elizabeth was born on December 16th, 1840 in Little Bolton and her baptism took place at St. Peter's (Bolton).¹²

  There are two Elizabeth Mather births in 1841, Little Bolton (LB/5/347) and another in Salford (RR/7/90). However there is no record of Elizabeth mothers name DAWSON in 1841 (so this seems to be an error). There is an Elizabeth Mather DAWSON in 1839 and an Elizabeth Mather KAY in 1841 (which must be her) in Dawson Lane, Little Bolton.

Elizabeth's father was Joshua Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Kay. Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Margaret (Peggy) Smith. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, Catherine and Margaret. She was the third oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 45 in October 1886 in Bolton.³

- This Elizabeth is the daughter of Joshua, the mechanic.
  
  This Elizabeth has her mother shown as Elizabeth KAY, and was born Dec 1840 (registered 9 Jan 1841). There is another Elizabeth, 4 months older, the daughter of Charles and Mary Dawson.
  
  In June 1841 Joshua (35) was a Shop Keeper and Elizabeth was 5 months (and brother Thomas married here 3 years later).
  
  In 1863, Elizabeth Mather of Bolton married George Bateman at Christ Church, Bolton.
  
  In 1871, George and Elizabeth Bateman (both 30) were living with Joshua Mather (65). They had a daughter Margaret J (3).
