Catherine was born in 1833 in Walton-le-Dale and her baptism took place there on May 5th, 1833.1 2  Catherine's father was Joshua Mather and her mother was Elizabeth Kay.  Her paternal grandparents were John Mather and Margaret (Peggy) Smith. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, Margaret, Margaret and Elizabeth.  She was the second oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 8 on August 22nd, 1841 in Walton-le-Dale.  She was buried on August 22nd, 1841 in Bolton.
