Ann's father was John Mather and her mother was Margaret Mather. Her paternal grandparents were Ralph Mather and Ann Clarkson. She had two brothers and five sisters, named Ralph, James, Martha, Esther, Mary, Alice and Nanny. She had an adopted sister named Esther.
