Andrew was born in September 1868 in Darwen.1  Andrew's father was Charles Mather and his mother was Esther Lomax.  His paternal grandparents were John Mather and Jane Entwistle. He had six brothers and two sisters, named John, Charles, William, Amos, James, James, Jane and Deborah.  He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 25 in September 1893 in Blackburn.2
