Alice was born about 1824 in Little Hulton and her baptism took place on April 24th, 1825 at St. Mary (Ellenbrook).¹

Birth Notes

Alice's father was William Mather and her mother was Martha Tyldesley. Her paternal grandparents were Ellis Mather and Ann Thornley; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Tildsey and Martha Mort. She had four brothers and a sister, named Matthew, John, Edwin, Samuel and Ann. She was the second oldest of the six children.
