Martha's father was John Lomax and her mother was Margaret Andrews. She had five brothers and two sisters, named William, Edward, Edward, James, John, Elizabeth and Jane.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 60 in 1856 in Turton.  She was buried on May 18th, 1856 at St. Anne (Turton).²
