John was born in 1805 in Little Bolton and his baptism took place on May 26th, 1805 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  John's father was John Lomax and his mother was Margaret Andrews. He had four brothers and three sisters, named William, Edward, Edward, James, Martha, Elizabeth and Jane.  He was the youngest of the eight children.
