James was born in January 1835 in Breightmet and his baptism took place on June 14th, 1835 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1  James' father was James Lomax and his mother was Betty Mather.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Lomax and Mary Kenyon; his maternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Brabin. He had five brothers and a sister, named Richard, John, Henry, Thomas, James and Mary.  He was the fourth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 6 in January 1841 in Breightmet.  He was buried on January 12th, 1841 at St. Peter's (Bolton).2 3
