James was born in March 1841 in Breightmet and his baptism took place on May 23rd, 1841 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  James' father was James Lomax and his mother was Betty Mather.  His paternal grandparents were Richard Lomax and Mary Kenyon; his maternal grandparents were John Mather and Ann Brabin. He had five brothers and a sister, named Richard, John, Henry, James, Thomas and Mary.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 3 in June 1844 in Breightmet.  He was buried on July 1st, 1844 at St. Peter's (Bolton).3
