Emily, known as Eva, was born in May 1861 in Darcy Lever and her baptism took place on May 5th, 1861 at St. Peter's (Bolton).1 2  Eva's father was John Lomax and her mother was Margaret Bradley. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Alfred, John, Louisa, Martha, Mary and Elizabeth.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
