Nellie's father was Walter Lawrence and her mother was Sarah Betsy Palmer. Her paternal grandparents were Walter Edmonds Lawrence and Rachel Bowling. She had a brother and two sisters, named William, Sarah and Rachel. Nellie and Sarah were twins. She died at the age of 63 in 1971.
