Mally was born in 1787 in Turton and her baptism took place on September 2nd, 1787 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Mally's father was John Knowles and her mother was Hannah (Anna) Mather. She had three brothers and six sisters, named Henry, Benjamin, John, Jennet, Alice, Peggy, Hannah, Christian and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the ten children.
