Benjamin's father was James Knowles and his mother was Agnes Bertwistle. He had a brother and four sisters, named John, Jane, Elizabeth, Alice and Agnes.  He was the oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 79 in January 1791 in Turton.  He was buried on January 13th, 1791 at St. Anne (Turton).¹

‌Benjamin and Christian were married in a religious ceremony on September 28th, 1738 at St. Peter's (Bolton).³   They had three sons and four daughters, named John, Benjamin, William, Hannah, Mary, Elizabeth and Jane.  There are no more children.
