Daniel was born in December 1855 in Darcy Lever.1  Daniel's father was John Jenkinson and his mother was Mary Mather.  His maternal grandparents were James Brooks and Margaret Mather. He had four brothers named James, William, Joseph and Roland.  He was the oldest of the five known children.
