Jane was born in 1827 in Tottington and her baptism took place on August 6th, 1828 at St. Anne (Turton).1  Jane's father was John Isherwood and her mother was Alice Brownlow.  Her paternal grandparents were Christopher Isherwood and Jane Greenhalgh. She had three brothers and five sisters, named James, Jonathan, William, Mary, Sarah, Ann, Elizabeth and Alice.  She was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
