Ann's father was John Isherwood and her mother was Alice Brownlow.  Her paternal grandparents were Christopher Isherwood and Jane Greenhalgh. She had three brothers and five sisters, named James, Jonathan, William, Mary, Sarah, Jane, Elizabeth and Alice.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
